Get your finger on the musical pulse with mScribble
Conducting band
Although not a game in a strict sense of the word, the latest release from US publisher Appular certainly has a playful atmosphere about it.
Called mScribble, its subtitle - make music with your finger - describes exactly how it works.
Simply, you set the musical style in the menu - proving a tempo and backing beat in a style such as bass, jazz, bebop (there are eight in total), and then just draw lines on the screen to make music.
Loopy tunesDrawing down the screen drops down the tonal scale and vice versa, and you can shake for vibrato, but basically you just scribble around with one finger to make music, although madly tapping around the screen can also be effective with certain styles, especially the more jazzy ones.
Neatly, the app records each composition (as a .caf file), which you can email to yourself or others after your performance. It doesn't store more than one track however.
Sure, it's no sophisticated synthesizer, but it is alarmingly easy for even the tone deaf to create something alarmingly melodic.
mScribble is available now, for iPhone and iPod touch, priced 99c, €0.79 or 59p.
