If you're planning to release a game on the App Store this month, we have some bad news for you: Apple has already released its picks for Game of the Year.
The Pocket Gamer Gold Award-winning
Rayman Jungle Run took the top prize for the iPhone, while
Letterpress, also a Gold Award winner, took the runner-up spot.
It's difficult for other games to get a leg up on
Rayman Jungle Run thanks to its gorgeous graphics and challenging gameplay, so its win as Apple's Game of the Year is certainly well-earned.
And the iPad GotY goes to…On the iPad side of the coin, the top two titles were both once again Pocket Gamer Gold Award winners.
The ominous puzzle game
The Room won everlasting glory as Apple's 2012 Game of the Year, beating out
Waking Mars which came in as the runner-up.
It's no surprise to see
The Room take top honours from Apple, as few games have been able to match its eerie atmosphere and immersive gameplay.
All four of these are great suggestions if you're looking for a new game to play over the holidays. If you'd like a few more recommendations, check back soon to see our picks for the Top 10 Games of the Year.

Rayman deserves the top spot. In my opinion, four games stood out - hard to choose the best, but the four are Polara, Rayman, NFS MW and Lili.

Raymen doesn't play or even feel like an auto runner, which is what makes it great. Maybe not my choice, but I'm OK with that pick. It's certainly the best action iOS game.

See I would have said walking dead. Maybe need for speed most wanted. Arc Squardon was another. Wild blood was great. Rayman was nice and simple, but just can't say it's the best.

@divisionbell7, I'd kindly disagree, Rayman Jungle Run is one of the best examples of touchscreen gaming, the controls are flawless, the graphics
and artwork is beautiful, the only thing that kind of lets it down is the music as that can get repetitive. It's not an endless runner, as there is a definite start and end to each stage, I probably I wouldn't even it call it a "runner" as the game is more about pressing "buttons" in a perfect sequence as opposed to the randomly generated obstacles we get in running, it's probably closer to something like Beat Sneak Bandit in a lot of ways.
Speaking of which, Beat Sneak Bandit was a genuine standout iOS title, The Walking Dead along with The World Ends With You for the best iOS game this year. It's a shame we haven't had Infinity Blade Dungeons or Real Racing 3 yet, as these have to be two of the most anticipated games on any format

Easily mobile game of the year by a country mile. Punch Quest was second best for me, probably followed by New Star Soccer and Into the Dead

Hmmm would not have been my choice. It's good, but it's really like most endless runners. There have been several games this year that blow Rayman out of the water (jungle?)
