Angry Birds developer Rovio: Console games are 'dying'
'Mighty Eagle' ruffling feathers again
Peter Vesterbacka, Rovio's self-styled 'Mighty Eagle' and the public face of the Angry Birds empire, claims that console games are "dying".
This follows a spat at this year's Game Developers Conference, in which Nintendo called 99c games "disposable", and Vesterbacka countered on Rovio's behalf.
The latest controversy, still aimed squarely at Ninty's Satoru Iwata, comes via a panel talk at a conference in Austin.
Vesterbacka argued that innovation in gaming has "clearly" now moved to mobile. He scoffed at the idea of traditional $40 console games, claiming that social gaming keeps developers "nimble" and responsive to gamer's needs.
As nice as it is to see market leaders like Nintendo challenged, we should probably take Vesterbacka's gamer-friendly stance with a hefty pinch of salt.
After all, he did recently call Rovio "Disney 2.0".
