After teasing us with an underlit shot of a bird with a lightsaber late last week, Rovio has pulled back the hood on the first trailer for Angry Birds Star Wars.
With physics elements taken straight out of the Angry Birds Space gameplay textbook, this epic collision of franchises will transport fowl-flinging fanatics to Tatooine, Hoth, and other famous locations from the Star Wars universe.
The short video (below) is fairly light on specifics, and doesn't show any in-game footage. However, it does reveal that all-important launch date: November 8th.
According to a report from USA Today, Angry Birds Star Wars is heading to iOS and Android, and will see the birds assuming the roles of famous Star Wars characters.
Going by the leaked image below, the ever-heroic Red Bird has been cast as Luke Skywalker, while the Yellow Bird will be strapping on a blaster to become intergalactic scoundrel Han Solo. E chu ta!
The Pink Bird will be playing Princess Leia (natch), while Chewy is to be embodied by monobrowed mammoth Terrence.
If you hadn't yet guessed, the pigs will be embracing the dark side, with pork versions of stormtroopers and Darth Vader already spotted on the packaging of accompanying merchandise.
Oh, you didn't think Rovio or LucasArts had forgotten about the merch, did you?
Far from it. In fact, Bleeding Cool and Idle Hands have posted images of Angry Birds Star Wars Jenga, At-At Attack Battle Game, and the Star Wars Early Angry Birds Action Figures Pack (modelled on the collectable Kenner packs from the '80s).
We'll be sending a single rebel reporter down to today's launch event in Times Square, which is set to kick off around 10am EST. We'll let you know when we have more info.
Updated on October 8th, at 14:35: We've just received confirmation from the Empire (okay - Rovio) that Angry Birds Star Wars will be coming to iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, and Windows Phone.
