Alien Blackout is finally here, and if you haven't yet jumped in to the alien themed survival RTS, you should know these essential tips.

There are a few things you need to play Alien Blackout. And I mean, need. The game doesn't give you the most in-depth tutorial, and in order to learn and manipulate the alien AI you have two choices: trial and error, or these tips.

We'll give you the important information on Alien Blackout and how you can defend against the alien stalking you right here, but if you need even more advice, check out our full walkthrough.

Command your crew

Bossing your crew around is going to be incredibly important for navigating the dying space station, lest you want to also be dying. There's a few simple commands you need to watch.

The most immediate is Hide/Come Out. You will need this a lot. If the alien's path is on a collision course with your crew mate, then they need to hide immediately. Once they're in the clear, you can send them back out.

Next is Hurry Up/Sneak. It's simple, the alien is less likely to track you while in Sneak mode, but you'll move incredibly slowly. Hurry Up isn't much faster, but, well, it's certainly more swift. Used intelligently, you can make your character speed up without alerting the alien.

You will need these commands often, and should always be ready to tap them.

On top of this, the crew will make attempts to warn you when the alien is nearby. Now, if the alien detects them first, it's over. But they might hear it first.

If they warn you that they can hear the alien, there's two possibilities. Either it's in the air vents near them, or you need to make them hide immediately. Probably best just making them hide first, and asking questions later.

1
Motion sensing skill

Motion sensing corridors might seem useful, but they're not useful - they are absolutely essential. The small indications of an alien walking through one instantly makes that corridor and connecting rooms dangerous, but also everywhere else safe.

Combined with your camera views, this is how you will keep track of the alien, and I will repeat - both are essential. You will not clear this game without using both, so don't even try.

Doors will help you seal alien paths from your crew, but they're not infallible, and aliens will always find a way around. They're more of a useful distraction…

2
Messing with alien AI

The alien is pretty smart, this is true, and thanks to placement of air vents, you'll never be able to entirely trap the alien behind doors or anything. But that doesn't mean you can't play with them at all.

This works best in motion sensing halls - if you see an alien about to exit through a door, close it. He'll be confused, and look for another exit. But before he gets too distracted - open the door again. You can keep the alien entertained by opening and closing doors regularly, though it never lasts forever.

Still, trapping and distracting the alien will always be essential to saving your crew from a grisly end, so always be ready to distract and succeed.

Headphones are essential

Ah, I've said a few things are essential, haven't I? Well this one is just as true. Use headphones. You need them.

It's not just because you need to hear audio - though that does help, as you'll hear when the alien is running around in the air vents, and is not on the floor.

No, it's because of the hatches that surround Ripley. When there is two or more, you will need to close the correct hatch, first try, or die and restart. Your only clue will be that the audio will be coming from either the left, or right, necessitating headphones over your device's default speaker.

On top of that, you will have to listen for the alien's approach, as the vent noises will be much, much louder when it's coming directly for you instead of just moving around.
