There aren't that many free apps that really capture our attention enough to dedicate news space to them, but this is one that retro gamers will appreciate. The classic, genre-founding Adventure – originally for the Atari 2600 – has received a picture- (well, large coloured block) perfect port to the iPhone.

Warren Robinett's Adventure was a categorical hit back in 1979, to the point at which it donated its name to the gaming genre we now know and love. By modern standards it's ultra-basic, but the mountain of historical importance behind Adventure still makes it a delight to play.

Gaming historians will recall how Robinett rebelled against the oppressive game development regime that prohibited programmers from getting any credit for their games, when he installed the first ever Easter egg in Adventure.

Whether or not the Easter Egg is still present in Peter Hirschberg's version it's up to you to find out, but surely that's reason enough to revisit the wonderful, blocky, pastel tones of the Atari 2600. Here's a link so you don't have to find the App Store key yourself.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
