AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! (Force = Mass x Acceleration)

Some games exude confidence. They're sure enough of their own mechanics to swagger around the App Store striking gutsy poses, knocking over drinks on purpose, and demanding the attention of anyone who looks in their direction.

Dejobaan's base jumping adventure is one of those games. A retooling of the similarly named PC title, it's a blisteringly paced first-person fall-'em-up, complete with gorgeous visuals and a pounding soundtrack.

More than that, though, AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! (Force = Mass x Acceleration) is an addictive high score-chaser that exudes a renegade charm. Jumping off buildings never felt this cool.

All your hugs, all your kisses

You start each of the 47 levels somewhere very high, then tap on the screen to begin your freefall.

In the early levels, you'll be dodging oncoming structures and trying to earn yourself hugs and kisses. Kisses are awarded when you pass perilously close to a building, and hugs when you stay perilously close to a building.

Your dangerous mid-air twists earn you points, and the more points you earn the higher your star rating at the end of a level. The more stars you get, the more teeth you're awarded, and you can then use these molars to unlock new levels.

As you plunge through the game, you'll unlock new moves, allowing you to make obscene gestures at protesters, give the thumbs up to fans, and spray graffiti on buildings to earn even higher scores.

Parachute pants

Controlling your downward spiral is as simple as tilting your device. You can play with the settings to increase or decrease the sensitivity, as well as inverting the Y-axis.

The game calibrates your device's position at the start of every leap, too, so you don't need to hold it in the same position for an entire session.

Once new skills are unlocked, they appear as icons for you to tap at the requisite times. It makes for a busy visual experience, but there's never so much happening that your attention is diverted from your chaotic plummet.

With a visual style that's somewhere between dystopian future and hectic screen saver, that was never really going to be an issue anyway. Throw in a soundtrack that could come from a futuristic gameshow and you're left with a unique and exciting package.

Hit the ground hard

AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! (Force = Mass x Acceleration) is every bit as crazed as you'd expect from its title. It's a twitchy, adrenaline-fuelled racer without corners, a sugar-rush of colours and noise.

It's funny, too, and that anarchic sense of humour soaks into every aspect of its gameplay. This is no fall in the park, though. Getting five stars on any level requires a combination of daredevil accuracy and suicidal bravery.

This is as much a game about picking yourself up and trying again as it is about plummeting from A to B. Underneath its cocksure exterior lies a deep understanding of the compulsion games can fill us with, and whilst its neon window dressing might drag you in, the drive to fall better next time is what will keep you playing.
