Aksys Games has announced that it's bringing a novelized version of 999: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors to the App Store on March 17.

999: The Novel takes the storyline of the original Silver Award-winning 999 and transforms it into a full visual novel.

This means that the found object puzzles of the original DS game were, sadly, not included but the twisty - and twisted - plot remains blissfully unaltered.

In 999: The Novel, players follow the story of nine kidnapped characters stuck on a boat that's set to sink in nine hours. As if this set up wasn't bad enough, the survivors soon come to the realisation that they each have a bomb implanted in their bodies that's set to go off if they don't play by their kidnapper's rules.

Zero sum game

999: The Novel tells its story through comic book style panels replete with evocative artwork from the game.

In the course of a player's experience with 999: The Novel, they'll need to make choices just as they did with 999 on the DS. Each choice sets them down a path, and each path leads to a different ending.

999 was a cult hit on the DS and set up an enduring legacy of games like Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward and, more recently, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. 999: The Novel is a great way for new players to familiarise themselves with the bleak world of these sorts of games all from the comfort of their iOS device of choice.

999: The Novel will cost $4.99 / £2.99 when it launches on Monday, March 17.
