Pokemon with a GPS twist

Exclusive: Glu shows off its ambitious GPS-based iPhone game 1000

What happens when you combine Pokemon with a hidden object game and a GPS location-based game? We don’t know, but we kind of imagine that Glu’s iPhone game 1000 would look a lot like it.

This innovative title lets you explore and discover 1,000 weird and wonderful items in the sort of fantasy world you’d expect to see in a classic Japanese RPG (such as the aforementioned Pokemon). The twist is that players can also locate items using the real world around them.

Cutting away to a screen that utilizes the iPhone’s GPS facilities, you can spot special objects littered throughout your real world location. To pick them up and transfer them to the main game, you simply walk to where they’re located.

If you don’t have access to GPS (perhaps you’re an older iPhone or iPod touch user), you can make use of Gifters in the gameworld, who scan for wi-fi hotspots in your location and offer you gifts accordingly.

We’ll have more info soon, but for now here’s an exlusive video of Glu talking you through the game.
