Weekly iOS and Android round-up: Battle of the Bulge, Deepworld, The Grading Game, and more
Santa's penultimate delivery
Hello there. Welcome to Pocket Gamer's round-up of all the new iPhone, iPad, and Android games that we didn't find time to cover this week.
Hundreds of new games hit the App Store and Google Play every day, so we can never write about everything. Instead, we pick and choose the most interesting and noteworthy apps.
To make sure no one is left out, we like to chuck all the 'leftover' games in this here article. Have a read, and do let us know if we should have devoted more coverage to any of the games on this list.
FluxxBy Playdek - buy on iPhone and iPad
Fluxx is a card game where the rules (and even the win conditions) change every time a player plops down a card. This mobile edition has asynchronous online multiplayer and a pass-the-handset mode.
Knights & Dragons: Rise of the Dark PrinceBy GREE - download free on iPhone and iPad
A new freebie from GREE now. It's a fantasy-RPG with quests and adventures, where you can team up with your pals or take them on in weekly PvP tournaments. I like the isometric art.
Epic StandBy Tatem Games- buy on iPhone and iPad
A tower defence game with a vertical twist. To protect your castle from goblins and dragons, you need to furnish your tiny fortress with archers, knights, and wizards.
The Room Pocket EditionBy Fireproof Games - download free on iPhone
It's Apple's iPad game of the year, it won a Gold Award in our review, and - odds are - it'll appear on our iPad Game of the Year list. Now, eery, enigmatic puzzler The Room is on iPhone, too.
Monster Truck DestructionBy Chillingo - buy on iPhone and iPad
Forget cars. In fact, crush cars into puddles of metal beneath the mighty wheels of your shiny new monster truck. That's kind of the idea in this race and stunt game from Chillingo. You can buy more trucks with IAPs.
By Shenandoah Studio - buy on iPad
Fancy some deep and absurdly complex strategy fun on your iPad? Battle of the Bulge should do you nicely, then. It's got a full suite of multiplayer options, two scenarios, and more World War II battles coming via updates next year.
By Incandescent Workshop - buy on iPhone and iPad
So, you kind of need to be a self-confessed dork to see the thrill in a game that simulates a Star Trek-style spaceship workstation. And you'll need a few like-minded friends to hook up their iOS devices and emulate the whole bridge. If that sounds like you, then knock yourself out.
The Grading GameBy mode of expression - buy on iPhone and iPad
Oh, man: it's a sub-editor's dream game. A teacher simulator in which you race against the clock to mark mistakes in a stack of student essays. Get that red pen out and bone up on your grammar - there are 100 levels and a career mode to play through.
DeepworldBy Bytebin - download free on iPhone and iPad
Deepworld is a steampunk-style, massively multiplayer Terraria-like crafting game. If that sounds like your sort of thing, you've probably already got it and have built an enormous fortress. Otherwise, read our hands-on preview of Deepworld.
By Gamevil - download free on Android
Gamevil's latest free-to-play baseball game is now available worldwide. You can play as batter or pitcher; challenge other players to boost your stats; and finish quests to earn big points.
D.O.T. Defender of TexelBy Mobage - download free on iPhone
I've never tried a Mobage game before, but Texel's cute-as-crap pixel-art visuals might just convince me to give one a go. The actual game is some kind of grid-based RPG battle thing. I don't know. It's free.
Endgame: SyriaBy Game the News - download free on Android
Game the News is a project by Auroch Digital where the team rapidly prototypes news stories into games. The latest is about the events unfolding in Syria, and explores the options open to the Syrian rebels as they push the conflict to its end game. Ambitious.
