Having shown off some games and unveiled a new iPod Touch at its Let's Rock event tonight, Apple also released the v2.1 firmware for the iPhone.

Apple boss Steve Jobs described it as "a big update" that "fixes lots of bugs". Hurrah! Hopefully that includes the bug where if you install loads of apps, it crashes like a stone.

Jobs also said v2.1 offers better battery life, faster backups, and various other performance improvements.

The update is due to go live this Friday, so get set for millions of iPhone users refreshing their update button in iTunes then.
