New iPhone coming this June?

Rumours of an iPhone hardware update have been rife ever since someone accidentally coined the phrase ‘iPhone Nano’. Although this alleged mini-version of Apple’s handset has been pretty much ruled out, allusions toward a 2.1 model have been doing the rounds.

Clues were uncovered inside the latest iPhone firmware update, which made references to the 1.1, the 1.2 and the mysterious 2.1 versions of the iPhone. The odd thing here is that 2.0 seems to be missing as, rather unexpectedly, the current iPhone 3G is actually considered to be version 1.2.

But a newspaper report by Business 24-7 - a United Arab Emirates publication - blows further wind into the sails of the rumour boat.

Speaking to the paper about the region’s imminent iPhone launch, service provider Etisalat’s Mark Davis suggested the UAE territory will get the ‘new model’ at the same time as the rest of the world.

“The latest 3G model will become available on February 15 according to Dow Jones,” the report states. “And the next version of the device, which is due out in June, will be launched in the UAE at the same time.”

So, this next version apparently scheduled for June is the follow-on to the iPhone 3G? At the rate that 2009’s flying past us, we’ll probably know pretty soon.

But what would you call it? The 4G? The 2.1? The iPhone 2? The jPhone seems kinda logical to us…

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
