iPhone games are getting more complex

Although we can see the levels of intricacy and endeavour increasing in iPhone apps simply by watching the App Store and playing the games, a new report by Game Developer Research shows the platform to be receiving increasing amounts of attention from the industry.

A survey of around 130 iPhone developers were quizzed on matters such as team size, budget, pricing, game features, studio characteristics and company proficiencies to try and determine the levels of development companies are putting into iPhone specific projects.

"This survey shows the increasing importance and maturity of the iPhone game market," says Simon Carless, director of Game Developer Research.

"The open platform seems to be encouraging a multitude of developers to jump on board, creating an intriguing melting pot of short form and more sophisticated game titles."

The report claims to uncover data on such App Store aspects as purchase prices for games, the effects of, and reason for, post-launch price adjustments, download number ranges, game porting trends and other vital statistics.

The full 139-page report can be purchased (balk!) on the official website, and even though we might be more tempted to spend that money over on the App Store and investigate the games for ourselves, it could indeed prove useful for new developers looking to determine pricing structure and available markets.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
