iPhone firmware update 2.2 is available... now!
Get in quick before the US wakes up
Apple has released iPhone software update 2.2 this morning - the latest firmware upgrade for its handset.
You can get it by firing up iTunes and clicking on the Check For Update button on the iPhone screen. It's a whopping 246.4MB download, mind.
There are no specific improvements for gaming, at least judging by the feature list released by Apple. What you do get is:
- Enhancements to Maps (including Google Street View, public transit and walking directions, the ability to display the address of dropped pins, and share your location via email).
- Enhancements to Mail (including sorting isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email, and improved formatting of wide HTML email).
- Improved stability and performance of Safari
- Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular network)
- Decrease in call set-up failures and call drops
- Improved sound quality of visual voicemail messages
- Pressing the Home button from any Home screen takes you to the first Home screen
- Preference to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard Settings
At first glance, the update appears to be for iPhone and iPhone 3G only, rather than iPod Touch.
