Developers World Championship: Match Report - Estonia v South Korea (Group B)
|
ESTONIA Fuzzle (Candycane)

VS SOUTH KOREA Inotia 2 (Com2uS)

Group B was tight...touch tight. All four competing nations could still qualify for the knockout stages of the Pocket Gamer iPhone Game Developers World Championship.

Estonia and South Korea were third and first respectively in the group table going into today’s clashes. So long as Com2uS’ RPG, Inotia 2, avoided defeat, a path to the fantasy world of the Last 16 was cemented.

Estonia’s situation was altogether more complex: at the very least, Fuzzle would have to match Romania’s result in the concurrent fixture to stand any chance of progressing.

Because of Estonia’s inferior goal difference, though, a cricket score was being prayed for by Fuzzle’s developer, Candycane.

Would the good Lord answer those petitions or could Com2uS maintain South Korea’s 100 per cent record??

Kick Off: 7.30pm, 22nd June

The critical view: Seeing into the future is quite a trick, but one or two of Fuzzle’s most talented members appeared to have pre-cog abilities for spotting killer balls on the park. Being able to undo a poor diagonal pass or mistimed tackle was also something of a boon at this level.

Inotia 2’s new cast of characters wasn't faintly intimidated, however, unlocking mad skills of their own, including the infamous Brown Banana (shot) on multiple occasions.

The South Korean management were equally busy on the touchline, distracting the referee’s attention for long enough with a Bronze Award to allow a forward in an offside position to net the opener.

Replays of the incident were beamed around the stadium, but to no avail for Fuzzle.

Unperturbed, the Estonians committed all five of their difficulty levels up for a corner, and, from the floated bonus ball in, equalised smartly on 33 minutes.

Half time: Estonia 1 – 1 South Korea The Fans’ 45: Whilst the players might not have expressed their nerves, the same clearly couldn't be said for those in the stands who were strangely muted on both sides at the start of the second half.

Neither Fuzzle's highly-competitive global leaderboards, nor Inotia 2's brilliantly orchestrated online group routines managed to rouse the required response.

At the final whistle, then, it was honours even between these sides, but reactions decidedly different. While the South Koreans embraced on the pitch, the Estonians retired to the dressing room to learn their fate, as news filtered through from the other Group B fixture...
