ARGENTINA Silent Swords (Oniric Games)

VS SOUTH KOREA Zenonia 2: Lost Memories (Gamevil)

Thursday's lunchtime clash of app developing cultures seemed like something of a mismatch at first glance, with a distinct imbalance in the number of bodies on the field.

Argentina’s stealth action hit Silent Swords featured a single ninja, whilst Gamevil’s RPG Zenonia 2 offered gamers no less than four warriors with which to roam.

Could Oniric Games’ lone assassin, sporting an unorthodox pair of tabi boots, slash his way to glory or would South Korean quadruple-teaming prove too stiff a challenge?

Group B was about to change shape....

Kick Off: 12.30pm, 17th June

The critical view: After escaping his top secret military base to join up with the squad today, the Solid Snake-style shinobi seemed grateful to be performing in a well-lit arena for once. Indeed, without the constant threat of land mines and lasers the Silent Swords’ frontman looked like he might be able to relax and play his natural game.

Unfortunately for the tiny ninja, his opponents today had even greater weaponry at their disposal, starting with Zenonia 2’s prized Bronze Award.

Had it not been for the inspired use of a shuriken by the Silent Swords’ goalie, the ultra-popular online battles in the South Korean adventure game would have opened the scoring for certain.

The pace slowed as the game wore on and both management teams were preparing their half-time team-talks when disaster struck for the diddy Argentinian dangerman.

Out of thin air a companion fairy ghosted into the South Americans’ box, and with a wave of her divine left wand produced a mystical gem into the bottom corner.

Silent Swords’ rather rotund and hirsute coach gestured wildly from the bench that an infringement had taken place in the build up; TV replays showed it was indeed the Hand of a Demigod. Nevertheless, the goal was given and it was Gamevil's RPG that entered the break ahead.

Half time: Argentina 0 – 1 South Korea The Fans’ 45: The second half kicked off with the Argentinian side pressing hard for an equaliser, spurred on by the knowledge that another reverse could spell the end of their campaign.

To its credit Silent Swords' gesture-driven attacks looked genuinely threatening in the midfield, but, ultimately, without sufficient backing from the Blue and White faithful the Albiceleste simply couldn't deliver a killer final ball.

In fact, as the half went on, it was the Gamevil boys who looked most likely to add to their tally. Ultimately though, neither side was able to muster enough fan power for a break-through so it was the half-time score which stood.

The result may not have been emphatic, but with two wins the South Koreans had guaranteed passage to the knock-out stages, whilst a second defeat for Argentina left them on the brink of an early flight home.
