Apple's iOS 5.1 beta - which has recently been seeded to testers - has been thoroughly poked, prodded, and probed for evidence of any upcoming fruit-based products or services.

Website 9To5Mac has managed to unearth several references to new shiny gadgets in the beta firmware, starting with the iPhone 5,1 - presumably, the next iteration of the Cupertino company's mobile phone.

If recent rumours are to be believed, said iPhone will include an all-new design and a 4-inch screen. All previous iPhone models have, of course, sported 3.5-inch displays, but these are starting to look small when compared with recent and upcoming smartphones from rival manufacturers.

The iOS 5.1 beta software also makes reference to two unknown iPad models: the iPad 2,4, and the iPad 3,3. Although it's unclear what each of these codes refer to, it's likely that the former represents Apple's expected Sprint-compatible tablet.

So, there we go: Apple is working on a new iPhone and iPad. Who'd have thought it?!
