Mobile accessories site giving away free iPhone 4 bumpers to 'grip of death' sufferers
It's a case of knowing what to say
To the extent that things can be trying for a company in the process of annihilating its own sales records, it's turning out to be a trying month for Apple and iPhone 4.
The 'grip of death' debacle – so called because holding the iPhone 4 in such a way that you cover the bottom-left corner kills the signal – is gathering steam, with non-profit review site Consumer Reports failing to recommend the device, and bookies and PR experts predicting a recall.
The solution? A bumper. Unfortunately, Apple is so far unwilling to provide official bumpers for free to its customers, and these items cost a whopping £25 new from the Apple Store.
Most unofficial cases cost somewhere between £10 and £20. If you go to mobile accessories site Mobile Fun, the unofficial cases cost a suspiciously reasonable £7.49, but you can get them for nothing by typing 'Deathgrip' into the 'promotional codes' – all you have to pay is the delivery cost of £2.50.
We can't vouch for the relative quality of Mobile Fun's case versus Apple's, or indeed anybody else's, but for a tenth of Apple's current asking price for the official bumper it may be worth jumping on this deal before the promotional code stops working.
