Nokia and Motorola put the boot in over iPhone 4 antenna issue

Subtle jibes coming through loud and clear

There’s nothing like competitor misfortune to get a company’s creative juices flowing.

Motorola has launched a subtle jab at the iPhone 4’s much publicised antenna problems in its innocent-looking advert for the Droid X in the New York Times.

Having rattled through the usual bullet points of features, the advert finishes with a comment about its double-antenna design, stating that it’s, ‘the kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls.’ Cheeky.

Nokia took a far more blatant route with its own response to the issue, detailing on its blog the various positions in which one can hold a Nokia phone. Techniques include ‘The cup’ and the ‘The four edge grip’.

Nokia's post has somewhat backfired, however, as it was revealed not too long after posting that certain Nokia models actually suffer from the same problem as the iPhone 4.
