White iPhone 4 delayed until mid-July
'More challenging to manufacture than expected'
If you're popping along to Regents Street this morning to pick up the new iPhone 4, don't expect a particularly colourful reception. While Apple showed off both black and white versions of its new wonder phone at its WWDC debut earlier this year, only the black model will go on sale today or even this month.
In a statement straight outta Cupertino, Apple admitted that "white models of Apple's new iPhone 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be expected until the second half of July."
While Gizmodo wondered how a snazzy paint job could so significantly delay a new product, an anonymous source seems to have the answer. Remaining nameless thanks to an Apple-held NDA, the source disclosed that Apple's "anal" attention to detail, and the "crazy" specifications from Cupertino, meant that the screen-printed white iPhones won't head out until they're completely perfect.
The (black) iPhone 4 goes on sale in America and the UK today.
