Steve Jobs may be away due to health issues, but his stand-in at at the top of Apple, Tim Cook, hasn’t wasted any time assuming the same cock-sure attitude as his absent boss.

On the back of some excellent financial reports for the Cupertino company that pegs iPad sales at a prediction-shattering 14.8 million, Cook dismissed the threat from Google Android-powered tablets in Jobs-like fashion.

Cook described a non-Gingerbread tablet, such as the Galaxy Tab, as not offering "a real tablet experience," adding that "it’s a 'scaled-up smartphone'...a bizarre product in our view".

Those expecting kinder words about upcoming tablets using an OS Google itself has specifically said is designed for such a device - like the Motorola Xoom - were in for a disappointment, as these were dismissed by the Apple COO as being ‘vapour’.

Despite these faster tablets approaching on the horizon, Cook was confident that Apple would retain the top position in the burgeoning tablet PC market. He cited the company’s ‘first-mover advantage’ and the ‘huge number of apps’ as two principle reasons why the company will remain ahead of the competition.
