Indie puzzle games dominate iPad launch schedule

While analysis from analytics firm Flurry suggests games will be the largest segment of iPad launch apps at 44 per cent, analysis from PocketGamer.biz further breaks down the game line-up.

Using the data from the Pocket Gamer big list of iPad launch games (and our secret list of games we can't talk about yet), I've crunched it all down in terms of the genres, type of developer, and geography of the games and their developers.

The result is that puzzle games are by far the largest single segment, making up 26 per cent of announced iPad titles.

This makes sense as they are simple to create, and for another, they don't require fast moving graphics; important considering most developers won't have access to iPad hardware prior to launch.

Action games, such as IUGO's Zombie Attack! and Appy's FaceFighter Face2Face, surprisingly make up the second most popular genre.

Sports is the next most popular category, although announced games are more along the lines of bowling, fishing, and pool than football.

Card and boards are another significant genre, and one I'd expect to increase the closer we get to launch.
