[Update] Apple will announce its new iPad Air later this month

This year's teasing slogan? "It's been way too long." Any ideas?

Reports suggest that Apple is set to announce the latest iPad later in the month. October 16th to be precise.

Rumours and rumblings at Cult of Mac suggest that the new iPad Air will feature an A8 chip, anti-reflective coating on that big ol' screen, Touch ID, Apple Pay, and improved cameras front and back.

You might even be able to get a shiny gold-coloured version of the ten inch slate. Which sounds horribly ostentatious.

Apparently we won't see a refresh of the iPad mini line at the show, to try and set the wee tablet apart from the nearly-as-big iPhone 6 Plus that Apple announced last month.

There'll also be some Mac and OS X news, if you're into that sort of thing. Obviously none of this has been confirmed by Apple, because it doesn't do things like that.

Rumours that Ringo Starr has written the theme tune to the new iPad Air, and will perform it live on stage with holographic representations of Biggy Smalls and Rachmaninov were made up by me just then.
