Zero Age is a beautiful atmospheric puzzler for iPad that came out of nowhere
Monument Valley fans, gather round
I love it when a game drops out of the sky and on to my lap, and it turns out to be wonderful.
That's what happened with Zero Age, this new atmospheric puzzle adventure for iPad by Majd Akar and Hosni Auji.
It drops you in its world without explanation, and then sets you off around a series of beautiful structures seemingly floating around in the sky.
The mysterious tone of the game is comparable to Monument Valley, but it also comes close to the isolation of PS2 game Ico, at times.
Aside from that, it's very much its own thing. You play as what seems to be a wizard, who is able to acquire Beam powers to solve the game's puzzles.
Mostly, from what I've played so far, it involves stacking up cubes to use them as stair and block deadly lasers.
The Beam that you first unlock lets you create a cube by itself, or protruding from another one. There are plenty more powers to unlock, though, so I expect the puzzles will grow more complex.
Even if they don't, I'm intrigued to keep playing just to explore the vast environments that the trailer above teases.
You can purchase Zero Age for £1.99 / $2.99 on the App Store for iPad only right now.
