ZX Spectrum comes to iPad in Elite Collection HD

UK publisher Elite Systems has announced that its iPhone ZX Spectrum emulator is now available on Apple’s tablet, with an HD edition for iPad.

Named ZX Spectrum: Elite Collection HD, the app is an emulator for 12 different Spectrum games. It also acts as digital store front as the publisher adds more retro classics in future updates. Games will cost £1.19 / $1.99 / €1.59 for a package of six.

The initial iPad release features games like Turbo Esprit, Saboteur, Chuckie Egg, and Harrier Attack, with faithful ports of the old games, special button layouts for each release and box-art for all 12 games.

There’s also a section to jot down your dream game, so Elite Systems can try and get them included in future packages. The publisher already has already reached commercial agreements with more than 80 publishers, with 200 games, keeping them busy for a fair few updates yet.

The original iPhone game proved a huge success for the firm, and Spectrum gaming in general. The six games in the inaugural volume generated over £1,000 in revenue for each game.

The iPad edition will cost you £2.99 / $4.99 / €3.99 for the inital app and 12 included games.
