It's naughty, we know, but we're quite fond of stories about indie developers abandoning the freemium model in favour of selling a premium app.

The latest to do that is Artbit Studios with its barmy match-3 game ZEZ. It involves a cat in a boxing ring, being flung in the air to punch fishes, and then zooming back down to land a knockout blow on a robot.

Anyway, Artbit has "realised the game style was much better suited for a premium model rather than freemium."

As such, ZEZ is no longer free-to-play and costs £1.99 / $2.99 upfront. It's also had a large content update to make the price worth it.

There are new rockets and power-ups, and 17 new skill levels to beat, all with badges to earn.

The entire boost, combination, and reward systems have been reworked for the premium model, too. Oh, and the coin packs have been completely removed, of course.

Not only that, but new animations, sounds, and visual effects mean ZEZ is even more lively than it was before.

We gave it a quick look back in January, decided that it's "a surprisingly engaging little game", apt for when you need to waste some time.

Now, with all these updates, it should occupy more of your time, and it might be more fulfilling as well.

You can purchase ZEZ on the App Store [buy] if you want to find out.
