Worms! I've got Worms! Worms 3!

That was a joke. I don't really have worms, I was using humour to lead you into this story about Team 17 announcing Worms 3 for iOS.

Anyway, Team17 has announced Worms 3 for iOS, and the new entry in the wiggly-warfare series has been designed from the ground up for mobile devices.

The game follows the same sort of turn-based, team-battle template that the Worms series has been famed for since the first game was released many moons ago, but builds on that template with some new ideas and features.

There are new weapons, all with funny names and likely funny explosions, and a series of levels set across four different themes – Beach, Spooky, Farmyard, and Sewer.

Your worm-warriors are now one of four different classes – Soldier, Heavy, Scienstist, and Scout – each with its own skills and abilities that suit different play styles.

There'll be pass-and-play multiplayer as well as asynchronous online battles, and leaderboards for the single player Bodycount mode that let you challenge your friends as well.

An optional card system lets you augment the abilities and skills of your warms, with a deck of 41 different strategic cards that you can play at the end of turns.

You can check out an awful lot of new wormy screenshots in the gallery at the top of the page.

Worms 3 will be out later this year on iOS devices. We're yet to hear of a price structure or whether other mobile platforms will be supported, but we'll keep you posted as soon as we know more.
