Why Does it Spin? is the direct opposite of a twitch game. Twitching will get you killed as sure as tossing your iPad in a bin.

But it's just as cruel as certain examples of that genre, and just as prone to chewing you up and spitting you out the second you make a mistake.

This is a game that wholeheartedly demands all of your concentration, and if you lapse for even a second you'll see your twirling craft dashed to pieces on the walls of the level.

Tilt shift

The question of the title refers to your spacecraft. It's constantly turning around a central spot, and it's your job to guide it through a series of tightly packed mazes.

You do this by tilting. The game recalibrates your position at the start of every level, but it's fair to say that this isn't a game you're going to be playing on a bus.

The slightest mistake results in you bashing into the side of the maze. Hit it too many times and you'll die.

There are healing zones that act as checkpoints, and a number of green glowing orbs to snaffle as well. A variety of challenges mean you'll have to replay levels numerous times to get all the gold stars.

You need to be patient, learn the mazes, and perfect the moves that'll get your ship through gaps that are too narrow for it to fit through.

Hard way

Some will find Why Does it Spin? a little too hard. Even the tutorial is pretty tough if you don't grasp the concept straight away.

And that can make for a frustrating experience. A single nudge into the wall usually leads to several more while you try to right your progress.

Why Does it Spin? is an enjoyable, hateful game, but it doesn't quite have the balance between rage and success to push it into the big leagues.
