Treasure Fetch - Adventure Time

Ever the perpetual trouble-finders, Finn and Jake have even managed to make a stroll through Ooo's countryside somewhat dangerous. Well, dangerous for Jake's face, anyway.

Treasure Fetch - Adventure Time is like someone sprinkled a healthy dose of the Cartoon Network mega-hit all over that graphing calculator classic, Snake.

There's more to it than just that, of course, but it's still decidedly "eat the thing, get bigger, don't bump into your own butt" flavoured.

What time is it?

Each level has Jake snaking his way around obstacles and through narrow spaces - with Finn along for the ride, of course - in an attempt to grab all the treasure chests.

If he eats an apple, he'll stretch out more and more and eventually become his own environmental hazard.

Once a level is finished you'll unlock three goals you can complete, such as finishing the stage at top speed or grabbing all the treasure in under a certain number of steps.

Completing these goals is important as each one nets you a key, and you'll need specific amounts of keys to unlock the many doors barring your access to later levels.

These goals, in addition to things like pears that shrink Jake back down and swords that can slice through enemies, really help to liven-up the rather basic formula that Treasure Fetch is derived from.

They don't entirely balance out the game's shortcomings, though.

Mild frustration time!

I'm not a super big fan of having to earn quite so many keys to unlock new levels, but it's manageable. I even like the way the goals encourage repeated plays. What bugs me is how those goals won't appear until after you've beaten a level.

It basically means I have no choice but to finish a level at least twice if I hope to get anywhere, and that's not always terribly exciting. In fact, it starts to feel like a real grind.

I definitely appreciate what Treasure Fetch - Adventure Time does to change-up the Snake formula, but it can feel a bit too restrictive when it comes to unlocking more content.

Especially for a paid game. It's fun enough in smaller doses, but you might start to get sick of replaying several stages over and over again just so you can move on.

Treasure Fetch - Adventure Time

Treasure Fetch - Adventure Time puts an interesting puzzle-like spin on the classic Snake formula, but it has its drawbacks
