There is a certain type of gamer for whom guns are the be-all and end-all of the interactive digital experience.

Innovative control schemes and interesting new ideas are all well and good, but shiny death sticks that go 'boom' are far more important to these folk.

And it's precisely those sorts of gamers that the maker of Tons of Guns is aiming for.

Glu Mobile has recently soft-launched Tons of Guns in Canada, so we took some time out of our hectic schedule to give it a go.

To all intents and purposes, Tons of Guns is a simplified one-on-one FPS.

You play as a gun nut out to retrieve his collection of shooters from the various thugs and criminals who stole his weapons from him.

You aim by tilting your iOS device and fire by tapping anywhere on the screen. If you kill your opponent before he pumps you full of lead, you get some cash, maybe some upgrades, and get to move on to the next level.

As you duke it out in these brain-dead duels, you'll unlock more powerful weapons. You'll start with a pistol, but pretty soon you'll be toting a double-barrelled shotgun or a quick-firing machine gun.

Despite the less-than-complex gameplay here, Tons of Guns does boast an interesting reloading mechanic. To wit, you tilt your iOS device down then follow a series of on-screen commands in order to stuff your weapon full of ammo again.

Tons of Guns is neither subtle nor nuanced, but it does feature a lot of guns and a lot of violence. We'll be sure to let you know when the game is released worldwide.
