Ouch, my heart

Till the Dawn, Waiting is an emotive experience with a strong message, but this is why I won't play it

Alright, unlike the daft, dry-humoured being I come off as I'm actually extremely sensitive when it comes to certain subjects, and Till the Dawn, Waiting touches heavily on one of those.

After bringing the game to Steam, underDOGS Gaming Studio will soon launch the narrative game on iOS, and you've got to be made of some stern stuff for it not to affect you in some way.

Drawing inspiration from the pets who were left behind during hurricane Irma, you'll play as an abandoned dog struggling between life, loyalty, and trust. It's by no means a lengthy game - its Steam reviews reporting that it's under an hour long - but I understand the message it's trying to get across.

My one major issue with products like this, however, is can it really class as a game and what is the purpose? I faced this same feeling back when I played through That Dragon, Cancer. I loved its art-style, its message, its story, but it didn't classify as a game in the traditional sense.

I don't know about you, but video games are an escape for me to deal with the pressures and frustrations of everyday life, and give me an excuse to tune out the world for an hour.

Personally, I will never play Till the Dawn, Waiting. Not because I think that it's stupid or pointless or a waste of time, but because it will break my heart into teeny tiny pieces and I'm not strong enough to deal with it.

Much like how Seymour's death in Futurama reduces me into a blubbering, self-loathing mess of human being, the trailer for this game does very much the same. The only difference is I can't just skip to the next episode.

Tell me if I'm being a fool in those comments below, of course. I'd love to know what your take is on games like these.

If that was too heavy for a Monday morning, here're some GIFs of doggos having a good time. Like this one, this one, and one of my favourite blissful dog videos by At Work? We Walk! Ahhh.
