As iPhone and iPod touch continue to gain popularity, clashes between gamers are on the rise.

Debates over hardware features and software options will always have a place among the dedicated base, yet it will be interesting to watch rabid fans chew each other out over the virtues of one tactical role-playing game over another. You know it's going to happen.

That's just as well because it means that iPhone and iPod touch have hit the big time. Rather than a small group of gamers campaigning for their device (Amiga fanboys, I'm staring at you guys), iPhone gamers are a diverse bunch.

There's as much agreement over the greatness of the devices as there is squabbling over why Fruit Ninja is better than Veggie Samurai (it totally is, by the way).

Fifth-generation iPod touch will not feature a camera

Considering the amount of drama around the decision to withhold a camera from the iPad design, which quickly faded after the device's launch, it should come as no surprise that Apple is not going to include a camera in the next iPod touch model.

While some criticised the previous model for its lack of a camera, those complaints have not had any impact on its popularity. iPod touch has been tremendously popular without a camera, largely because its primary use as a games device eliminates the need for one.

Why do you need a camera if all your time is checking up on your fallow plots in We Rule?

Expect whining from a vocal minority over the lack of a camera, but that should have little effect on what is sure to be a sweet new iteration of the best portable gaming device currently available.

Nippon Ichi Software preparing Disgaea for iPhone and iPod touch

DisgaeaThe tactical role-playing game war is heating up! Not to be outdone by Square Enix's illustrious Final Fantasy Tactics, Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) is looking to release the famed first instalment of its Disgaea series for iPhone and iPod touch.

Having already appeared on Nintendo DS and PSP, making the jump to iPhone wouldn't be terribly difficult. In fact, NIS has already introduced itself to the iPhone gaming community in Japan with the release of a spooky set of text adventures called Hayarigami.

There are no plans to localise the app for a US and UK release, though it does set the foundation for bigger releases - in short, Disgaea.

Given the amount of time NIS usually takes to adopt a new platform, it could be several more months before Disgaea appears on the App Store. October would be ideal, but it's likely to be much later in the year - if in 2010, at all - before you're able to play it.

Warner Bros considering mind-bending Inception iPhone game

InceptionHow do you know if this is a rumour or reality? What seems like a legitimate rumour about an adaptation of Christopher Nolan's phenomenal film Inception could easily be a projection of your subconscious inhabiting the architecture of this web page that we've built for you.

Whether it's a lucid dream or reality, the idea of an iPhone Inception is too tempting to not believe. While I wouldn't blame you for doubting that such a complex, intellectually charged film could make a great game, there's definitely potential if the right game developers are on board.

A thought-twisting adventure that constantly shifts from one scene to another, scenarios blending into each other, action turning to drama turning to puzzle - it sounds intense.

At risk of ending this hardcore gamer's wet dream, it's important that I note that the concept is only being considered. Warner Bros hasn't approved the project for development, and it's likely given the obvious challenge that it could never take off.

In that worst case scenario, I suggest you experience the next best thing: Dora the Explorer's Incepción.
