If you're a fan of digital boardgames, then iOS really should be your platform of choice.

Barely a week goes by without a new digital boardgame hitting the App Store, you see. And this week is no exception.

United Soft Media's The Rivals for Catan is the latest addition to the iOS boardgame cupboard, and it'll be out in the UK and US at around midnight.

In this card-based city builder - designed by the chap behind the original Catan - you are cast as a Prince / Princess of the fictional realm.

As well as constructing settlements and roads, you'll need to hire heroes who'll make it tougher for your opponents' city-states to thrive.

There are three game modes to play through in The Rivals for Catan, each of which contains extra layers of challenge and depth.

In the First Catanians mode, you are walked through the basics. In Theme Set, the dev throws in new cards. In the Duel of the Princes mode, meanwhile, you are offered the complete experience.

Much like the recently released Agricola, The Rivals for Catan isn't a game for the faint of heart or the rule-averse.

You'll be able to nab the Universal app The Rivals for Catan from midnight tonight for £2.49 / $3.99.
