Monsters Ate My Condo was an ingenious mix of Jenga, a match-three puzzler, and a bizarre giant monster film. As you might expect, Super Monsters Ate My Condo! is more of the same. This isn't a sequel so much as a tweaking.

There are new types of condos to contend with, challenges to complete, ranks to gain, and hats to give your monsters to make them more powerful, but other than that not much has really changed. These are the condo-eating monsters we've all grown to love.

If you've not played the game before, it's all about matching groups of coloured condos in a precarious stack. You flick the coloured buildings out of the pile, hoping that it doesn't topple over as you do.

To make matters worse, two giant freakish creatures lurk at the side of the screen. Feed them condos of the right colour, and they'll go about their business. Feed them too many condos of the wrong colour and they'll start to stomp around, wobbling your structure.

Match three or more condos of the same colour a given monster, however, and it'll leave the screen to be replaced by another monster. This also creates special metallic condos that earn you more points if you can create a chain of them.

This new version introduces acidic and nuclear condos, which need to be handled quickly and carefully if you want to try and get a decent score. Then there are the challenges, which you need to complete to unlock new condos and boosts.

Monstrous behaviour

Boosts are perks that you can equip at the start of a level in order to try and earn more points. They cost coins to use, though, and it's rare that you'll earn enough of those in a game to offset the cost of using a boost.

Super Monsters Ate My Condo! might sound like a confusing beast, but it introduces you to its disparate elements slowly, letting you get a grip of one before dealing with the next. And once those elements are in place, you're left with a riotous, addictive gem of a puzzler.

Whether there's enough new content here to justify a second purchase really depends what you made of the first game, but for newcomers this is now the definitive version of one of Adult Swim's best.

An extension to the original rather than a true sequel, Super Monsters Ate My Condo! is just as entertaining as its forebear
