Gameloft’s epic sci-fi blaster, Star Battalion, has made its way across the platform divide and landed on the iPad.

Star Battalion HD is an homage to the third person sci-fi titles that were commonplace in the late 90s, taking its linear mission-based gameplay from titles like the classic Rogue Squadron.

As with most Gameloft titles, there’s not too much new about the iPad version other than the higher resolution graphics and rearranged buttons, so don’t go expecting new ships or missions.

Indeed, the description for the app seems to be taken directly from the iPhone version, as it's left in talk of the gyroscope control.

Starry, starry night

In any case, the fantastic co-op of the original is still intact through Gameloft Live, and it looks like it’ll be supporting Game Center straight out of the gate, too (when Apple finally gets around to releasing the update).

There's also now an HD version of the Star Battalion comic available for free on the App Store, if you're in the mood for some light reading this fine Thursday.

Star Battalion HD is available now from the App Store priced at £3.99, $6.99 or €5.49, and can be bought using the button below.
