Square Enix wants to do more premium mobile titles, usually fitted for consoles

Square Enix earns a massive amount of money on free-to-play titles but is looking to diversify its source of revenue. On its latest financial briefing, the juggernaut said that the market for premium apps could see a resurgence now that mobile devices are powerful enough to power console-like experiences.

Square notes that premium apps are cheaper to maintain and can sell for a longer period of time thus leading to more revenue after a while.

It seems like Square is actively looking into it and we should see more paid and premium apps fairly soon. Square Enix's apps, like the latest Romancing Saga 2, are often some of the most expensive games but if that means more content and less gatcha mechanics, this could be great news for everyone playing on mobile.

Let's just hope that also means better support for existing apps as they often break with new iOS' versions and can take sometimes months to be fixed.
