Sid Meier's Starships is a turn-based iPad strategy game that takes Civilization into space

2K and Firaxis have announced a new iPad strategy game today in Sid Meier's Starships. It's due to be released in early 2015.

In it, you'll be commanding a fleet of starships to complete missions towards bringing peace to the galaxy. But peace doesn't come without a fight.

As such, you'll be exploring the galaxy, defending planets, and growing an empire across the game's campaigns.

You'll also have to design your own custom starships so that they perform well in the turn-based battles. This also involves researching new futuristic technologies.

Starships is considered to be an expansion of the sci-fi universe of Civilization: Beyond Earth. It's set during the age of the Seeding right after the events of that PC strategy game.

"When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth," the game's designer Sid Meier said.

"What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?" he continued.

"My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration."

There's no more information about Starships yet except that it's also coming to PC and Mac. You can at least watch its announcement trailer above. We'll let you know when we hear more about it.
