Minecraft developer Mojang has reduced the price of its collectible card game Scrolls ahead of its forthcoming release on tablets.

The Scrolls beta has been available on Windows and Mac since June 2013 for anyone who pays the £13 / $21 asking price.

That price has now been dropped to just $5 (£2.99) so that it suits the typical price range for tablet games.

"Our current price of $21 isn’t feasible for tablets," Mojang wrote on the Scrolls blog.

"As you probably already know, games are cheap on those things. Free-to-play would be an option, but we’re not keen on the way that that form of monetisation can affect gameplay."

Mojang's aim for Scrolls is to have an active cross-platform community playing competitively against each other.

Having a shared price across platforms is one way of ensuring there are plenty of players on both PC and tablets.

Another way is by having consistent scrolls collections across platforms, so you can swap back-and-forth.

The idea is to provide the same experience no matter the platform, and to "not pressure our players into spending extra cash in order to be competitive."

Luckily, Mojang hasn't forgotten about the people who paid the original beta price for Scrolls. They'll be getting the $20 shard package deal for free.

Scrolls should be released on tablets soon. We'll let you know when we find out more specific details.
