Samsung not guilty; Apple not happy

Apple posts UK judgement in Samsung Galaxy Tab case on its site

Back in July, UK High Court Judge Colin Birss delivered a ruling which stated that Samsung's line of Galaxy Tabs does not infringe Apple's tablet design patents.

Unsurprisingly, Apple appealed his decision. Surprisingly, Apple lost. Yep, the UK Court of Appeal decided to uphold Judge Birss's decision.

As a result of Judge Birss's original ruling, Samsung was allowed to continue selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Europe. Apple, meanwhile, was ordered to post a notice on its site asserting Samsung's innocence in the matter.

Sorry seems to be the hardest word

However, if the statement posted on Apple's website today is the abovementioned notice, it's hardly the grovelling apology Samsung's legal team has likely been fantasising about for the past three months.

In the statement, Apple regurgitates a few of the points of comparison Judge Birss made between the iPad and the Galaxy tablets.

Unsurprisingly, Team Cook chose to highlight the judge's comment that the Galaxy tablets "are not as cool" as Apple's iPads.

At the bottom of the statement, Apple then makes reference to two other patent dispute cases (one in Germany and one in the US) in which Samsung was deemed to have infringed Apple's design and utility patents.

Apple's notice concludes: "So while the U.K. court did not find Samsung guilty of infringement, other courts have recognized that in the course of creating its Galaxy tablet, Samsung wilfully copied Apple's far more popular iPad."

Nice to see those two finally bury the hatchet. Group hug?
