How about this for a surprise? Year Walk and Beat Sneak Bandit developer Simogo has just launched a game on the App Store.

It's called SPL-T, and it's not like anything the studio has done before.

It's one of them single-screen score-chasing puzzle games ala Threes! or SpellTower. But this time, it's about splitting squares in half while a tiny dancing robot looks on in approval.

The rules are, well, complex. But the jist is that you want to use cuts to make a two-by-two square of blocks which are all the same size. They will then disappear, at the end of a timer - the length of which is dependent on… uh, it's complicated.

Look, this game is going to take some time to get to grips with. It may be incredibly deep and the puzzle game ever, it may be rubbish. You just don't know until you spend a few hours with it. Which you can do, by clicking this link.

If the minimalist graphics are a bit too minimalist for you, you can shake things up a little by wiggling your iOS device or turning your gadget upside down. A frog told me this. I believe the frog.

Get the game here.
