Rocket Control is somewhat of a complex game, so bear with us for just a moment. You see, Rocket Control is a retro-style sci-fi-infused turn-based racing game.

It's also a card game.

Basically, in this latest title from Full Deck Solitaire developer GRL Games, you're tasked with beating a variety of AI and real-world opponents to the finish line of frantic outer space-based races.

Your ship isn't equipped with WipEout-style weapons, but you do have access to several cards that will help you outclass and - generally - outperform your fellow racers.

You can play a delay card, for example, which will throw one of your foes into the path of a deadly asteroid field. Other cards allow you to disable ships by cutting their reactors or setting them on fire.

Rocket Patrol is available to download from the App Store for your iPad for free. It comes complete with single-player and multiplayer modes, in-app chat features, and 12 regular playing cards.

If you fancy splashing a little cash, you can unlock the full game by buying two additional cards via a 69p / 99c in-app purchase.
