Pumped BMX 3 has hit the App Store, bringing a much loved series to a conclusion.

If you haven't played a Pumped BMX before, don't let its appearance fool you. What might look like a bright and breezy casual autorunner is actually a fiendishly technical game of risk, reward, and ninja hand coordination.

The idea is execute jumps and tricks across a range of undulating BMX tracks. There's a little Tiny Wings in the way you must maintain momentum through the dips and crests, but Tiny Wings didn't give you a virtual trick stick, a lateral spin button, and an accelerometer-based flip input to think about.

After a brief tutorial section, Pumped BMX 3 pretty much leaves you to figure things out for yourself. With that in mind, we thought we'd lay on some basic tips and a list of the tricks to get you started.

Think of its as a virtual shove off at the top of a track leading to Pumped BMX 3 mastery.

General tips

Momentum should be your priority - of course, you need to nail plenty of tricks to score big, but they should never rob you of precious forward momentum. Never forget the basic principle of pumping near the top of landing ramps, or you won't make it to the end of the course.

Know your spins - a tap will start of a slow spin, while holding will speed things up. You can utilise the slow spin for some easy combinations - set it turning early and concentrate on the other stuff.

Launch timing - the downward 'pump' motion doesn't kick in immediately, so don't worry about releasing the pump button until just after you've taken off.

Crank up those flips - if you're really intending to go for it with an aggressive flip, get ready by tilting your phone during the run-up, so the flip starts as soon as you're airborne.

Don't get hung up on a track - finding that you're failing again and again? Move on. Pumped BMX 3 is designed specifically so that you can move on to something else without acing every preceding track, then come back later and ace it.
