Pocket Gamer and Friends

It's the weekend, baby. You know what that means. Time to round up some of the best articles from our sister sites into one lovely page for everyone to read.

Yes, our family of sites, including 148Apps, AppSpy and the video arm of AppSpy have been equally busy this week creating brilliant things to view with your eyes, and we're going to celebrate them just like we always do before we clock off for a well-earned weekend rest.

So, sit back, relax, and enjoy your journey through the rest of our websites and the wonderful articles that they've put up this week. Then get yourself a drink. You've earned it, buddy.

148Apps

We gave Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery a pretty good kicking when it launched, and we weren't the only ones – critics from websites that don't usually look at mobile jumped in to lament its awful free-to-play monetisation.

But, regardless of what the gaming press has said about it, the game is making a fair bit of cash. Why is that, exactly? That's what Harry decided to think about this week.

It all comes down to the divide between people writing about games and the people who actually play them. In some ways, we hold games to a much higher standard than folks who just casually play things, and if they're happy to spend, then they're not going to listen to us – it's a simple as that.

AppSpy

Another hidden gem from AppSpy's overlord Christian this week, and it's Michael Brough's roguelike, board game-type-thing Imbroglio.

"If you've played 868-Hack, Imbroglio will feel somewhat familiar; similar elements and mechanics link the two: randomly spawning enemies, a level layout that changes upon performing a certain action, enemies that move when you move, and so on," he writes.

"But despite those similarities, Imbroglio is its own game, offering a number of different classes (more if you've bought the game's two expansions), each with unique abilities and deck limitations. Your goal is simple: collect stars, earn a high score, evade or destroy encroaching enemies."

AppSpy Video

James is sadly off to San Francisco right now to get ready for our next Pocket Gamer Connects in the city, but he still had time this week to throw out some lovely videos for your viewing pleasure.

Spike City is a particularly pretty one to watch, and it's a Nitrome game, so you know it's gonna be good too, right? Check the video if you don't believe me.

And for some classic James playing a game unscripted action, check out his hands on with new release Odium to the Core while you're at it.
