Plunder Pirates is a real-time strategy game about pirates who plunder. Guess what? It's set to surface on the App Store later in the year.

Plunder Pirates has been developed by Midoki, a team made up of ex-Sony devs who jumped, ahem, ship to work on mobile games instead.

Oh, and the chairman of Midoki is industry legend Ian Livingstone. So, yep, there's a huge chunk of pedigree right there.

Plunder Pirates certainly looks impressive, with shiny graphics and wibbly seas, and plenty of gorgeously designed squishy pirates to find and fight.

Don't just take my word for it, mind: check out the trailer embedded below to see the game in action, and check out just how wibbly all that water looks.

The game looks a bit like a more polished Clash of Clans set on the high seas. Base building and invasions are clearly the order of the day.

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing - the exploration part of proceedings will likely mean there's a greater depth to the game.

We don't have a concrete release date yet for Plunder Pirates, but we'll keep you updated as and when we are told it.
