Update on March 9th at 13:25: Pixel Plex is now available for free on iOS. Let's see what it's worth shall we?
I know, I know, you pretty cautious about any city builder on mobile now. They're often riddled with pay-to-win elements, filled with timers and quite a chore to play. We've all been there and there are only a few premium city builders (and even less now with iOS 11).
Enter Pixel Plex, while being free-to-play, it does things differently enough to warrant a cautious look. The main draw here is that the game's focus is on cooperation not competition and that should reduce the effectiveness of iAPs. Furthermore, there are plenty of neat features, here's what the developers had to say about it on Reddit:
"In Pixel Plex you are given a block in a city with up to 40 other players.
Players are all working together to build giant city projects that will effect all players. Players vote on which project they want to build in their town by donating money to the corresponding project.
Players also can trade resources with each other on a city wide market.
When you build next to someone, you can hire residents of their block to work in your block. Similarly, players can hire residents from your block, giving you money. Your buildings affect your neighbors, so choosing the right building will help you get ahead.
Want to run for mayor of your city? Elections happen every two days. As mayor, you can set certain policies for the city. For example, you could reduce the cost of city projects, or you could line your pockets by increasing the amount of money you get as mayor."
This is also a game that looks quite good in motion so color me intrigued even if I'm expecting the game to disappoint somehow.
You'll be able to try Pixel Plex this Friday and you can register on the main website to get $3 of in game currency for free.
