Alice: Madness Returns developer American McGee is currently toying with the idea of releasing a dark and twisted zombie-filled take on Lyman Frank Baum's magical The Wizard of Oz series.

The game (tentatively named OZombie) is in its very early stages of development. In fact, it exists solely as a number of concept sketches and artwork.

According to McGee, OZombie could go anywhere. One possible storyline follows main character Scarecrow, who's dissatisfied with the brains the wonderful Wizard has gifted to him.

He subsequently sets off on a rampage across Oz, turning everybody he touches into a brain-craving walker, and leaving Oz as a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

If it ever sees the light of day, OZombie will probably be an episodic title for Mac, PC, and tablets (presumably the iPad and some Android-powered slates). It will feature cross-platform play.

McGee is currently thinking about Kickstarter tiers, so we'll hopefully see a campaign to fund this title sooner rather than later.
