Nun Attack: Run & Gun

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with Nun Attack: & Gun Gun. It's a game that sets out its stall in its title, and does nothing to deviate from it. From start to finish you quite simply run, in guise of a nun, and you have a gun.

You'll automatically peg it down streams of randomly generated platforming scenery jumping, sliding, and shooting to get past the various obstacles and creatures that get in your way.

But you're unlikely to feel fulfilled, and with the creeping shadow of IAPs lurking at every turn you'll eventually just get bored and stop.

You play as a nun trussed up in a leather habit and high heels, which is uncomfortable for everyone involved. You run from the left to the right of the screen, dodging obstacles and shooting demons thanks to a series of buttons.

There are gold coins to collect as you endlessly bound through the spiky plants, chainsaw wielding skeletons, and rock-throwing werewolves. To begin with your gun is a little on the measly side, but once you've bagged a few thousand coins you can beef it up a little.

The gameplay is smooth and tight, and the animation is impressive. Weaving through a series of obstacles feels good - especially if it culminates with a squelchy headshot on an annoying and potentially deadly banshee.

While the violence is slick, there's little real progression. You'll pop from one background to another, collecting extra coins, shooting more monsters, but never really getting much further in the grand scheme of things.

Of course, you can pay to get extra boosts, nuns, and guns, but the game doesn't do a good enough job of selling itself in the first place to make you want to shell out. It all gets repetitive too quickly, and the original intrigue the game offers is replaced by a vampiric malaise.

Nun Attack: Run & Gun is a solidly put together game, but once you peel back its outer skin you'll find a frame and nothing else. It looks good, it sounds good, and it's fun for a while, but there are plenty of far more interesting endless-runners out there.
