The best iPhone and iPad games this week - Deep Loot, 80 Days, Micromon

Every Friday, Pocket Gamer offers hands-on impressions of the week's three best new iOS games.

Deep Loot
By Monster and Monster - download on iOS (Free)

Deep Loot

Being poked by an old man with a stick into the great blue depths is exactly what we needed this week. Deep Loot is oceanic looting as good as it's gonna get.

It doesn't start off brilliantly, mind. Somehow, repetition manages to sneak in beyond the randomised coral and ship wreckages. Pick up a single IAP, however - it doesn't matter which one - and Deep Loot picks up speed.

From there on out, you're happily turbo boosting down into frightening lairs, and upgrading your equipment so you can live another day.

80 Days
By inkle - buy on iOS (£2.99 / $4.99)

80 Days

The barmy determination of Jules Verne's Phileas Fogg, as he vows to travel around the world in 80 days, is captured superbly in 80 Days.

Sent back to a steampunk 1872, you play Fogg's servant as you plan the route around the world. Weighing up the pros and cons of intercity trip has the challenge you'd expect of such a dangerous race.

80 Days also doesn't let Verne down as it is brilliantly worded and tells the story with aplomb. You don't want to miss this special adventure of your own making.

Micromon
By Moga Interactive - buy on iOS - (69p / 99c)

Micromon

This is probably as close as you're going to get to having a Pokemon RPG on iOS.

Yep, Micromon mimics that classic Pokemon formula in every way possible. You'll be sucked into the digital world of Pixekai and will set off on an adventure to stop a giant Micromon destroying the world.

There are over 130 Micromon to battle, capture, and evolve along your journey. Each of them have a range of elemental attacks and come detailed with smooth animations.

There's hours of gameplay to be found in Micromon and, while it does have IAPs, none of them are necessary to beat the game.
