Monster Legacy is basically a new free-to-play Pokemon for iPad and iPhone

For the time being, Monster Legacy is probably as close as we're going to get to a Pokemon game on iOS.

It's a cutesy RPG that sees you wandering around a gorgeous isometric-ish world collecting beasts and making them fight one another.

It's much more of a, well, mobile game than its obvious inspiration, though, with plenty of currencies and purchasable special moves available here. There's even a FarmVille-style base-building mini-game.

The creatures you catch in Monster Legacy are endearing in a podgy, cartoony sort of way. Furthermore, they level-up, evolve, and learn new attacks as you force them to murder their kin.

Monster Legacy is live on the App Store right now. And you can give it a go for nothing at all if you fancy that sort of thing.
