After Monkey Island Tales 2 HD for iPad appeared on and then disappeared from the New Zealand App Store last week I contacted Telltale Games to find out why. The PR man I spoke wasn't sure what had happened, but told me the studio had “big plans” for the series in the coming weeks.
This must be what he meant. Monkey Island Tales 2 HD has reappeared on the New Zealand App Store, and it's now accompanied by episodes 3, 4, and 5.
You can read our review of Monkey Island Tales 1 HD here.
Episode 2, Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, sees Guybrush taking to the seas on the eponymous vessel and attempting to eradicate the Pox of LeChuck.
Episode 3, Lair of the Leviathan, sees Guybrush meeting a motley band of salty castaways inside a large whale.
Episode 4, The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood, sees Guybrush trying to exonerate himself and avoid death.
Episode 5, Rise of the Pirate God, sees Guybrush trying to defeat, well, you can probably guess.
The new episodes cost $9.99 each in New Zealand, which means £3.99/$6.99 in the UK and the US, making the cost of the whole five-part series £20.
We'll have reviews all four games on the site soon, but while you wait for our expert verdict it's safe to assume that each of them will be a faithful and entertaining adventure plagued, on first-generation iPads, with choppy performance.
Monkey Islands Tales 2 HD is available now, and episodes 3, 4, and 5 HD will be available in the UK at around midnight.
